Painted Kitchen Cabinets

It's the New Black

Play up the contrast of white walls by painting kitchen cabinets black. By taking off the doors and adding inexpensive moldings, creating a sophisticated and versatile kitchen. My kitchen cabinets are black and it lends to an elegant look splashed with all the colors in dishes and accessories, it is a beautiful backdrop.

Brighten With Yellow

Cheery yellow adds a playful element to this gourmet kitchen from the 2009 HGTV Dream Home. Paired with gray countertops and walls, the bright cabinet color keeps the space charming instead of drab.

Go Bold With the Island

One of the hottest trends in kitchen cabinets is an island featuring a dramatic hue. Surrounding white cabinets set the scene, but an onyx island brings high style to this traditional kitchen

Sophisticated Gray

Gray is a refined, classic shade, but it also evokes a more modern feel than its black counterpart. Designer David Stimmel chose a hand-applied painted sheen for these birch cabinets, which allows a hint of the natural wood grain to peek through the soft gray tone.
TOTALLY BEAUTIFUL AND SOPHISTICATED!!!

Mix It Up

Can't decide on one color for your cabinets? Paint the top and bottom cabinets different colors. Since blue and yellow are complementary hues, they're the perfect combination for this Old World kitchen. Design by Linda Adams.

Tween and Teen Rooms

Kids Room Colorful Bedroom

The bright colors of this bedroom bring the tropic islands inside. The flower design throughout the room adds a fun, youthful look.

The bold orange and green accents pop against the black-and-white accessories in this bedroom. RMS user Colorblaster used the window treatment as the inspiration for making the curtains, headboard and pillows.

Designer Erinn Valencich used many different elements in this green and black bedroom. The black-and-white accessories along with the eclectic-style pillows on the bed create a fun visual.

Flea Market Finds

Flea Market Flower Arrangement

To maximize the impact of a collection, display all the pieces together in an unusual way. Two dozen apothecary bottles become an eye-catching centerpiece when placed in a rustic tool caddy.

Flea Market Bathroom Vanity Chair Accessories

Keep irresistible finds from turning into dust collectors. Just give a must-have item a job to justify its presence. Use teacups to corral paperclips and pushpins in your home office. A row of mini chairs turns a guest bathroom into a playful retreat.

Flea Market Painted Dresser

When shopping for used furniture, imagination is key. A dresser with missing drawers might seem like trash, but if it still has shelves, it can be a treasure. Give it a fresh coat of paint and you've got a whimsical bureau for your boudoir.

Flea Market Mail Organization

Instead of buying a generic bin to sort your mail, why not opt for something vintage and unexpected? Go on a hunt at the antique faire for a safety deposit box, a cheese crate or a narrow drawer from an old sewing table. A plastic inbox might do the job, but a card catalog drawer has character.

Flea Market Chair Vignette

Second-hand chairs are not only easy to make over, they’re also super cheap. You can pick one up at a rummage sale, church bazaar or garage sale for under $10. Just double-check that it isn't broken and that the seat can be recovered easily. With some stylish fabric and a staple gun, you can have an instant occasional chair or a kooky side table.

Purple and Red ??

Red and purple is a rare combination in interior design, even when it feels like everything has been "done" before. This combo will still turn some heads. So if you're bored with color and want to try mixing unusual tones, red and purple may give you that extra edge. This is an excellent example of well mixed patterns, although it pops with a varity of mixed patterns it is a suble
burst of vibrance and comfort.

Although the red walls and purple sofa is the focal point, the choice of
black lamps, dark mahogany furniture and the subtle print on the accent pillows lends a subdue affect.

Here the paleness of the lavender walls needed the white accents and red accents to draw the eye back down from the tall ceilings.

If you are so brave with colors, these ideas would be my choice.

The next 2 photos NOT SO MUCH????

Overstated and not pleasing to the eye, in my opinion.

Backsplash Designs

Blue glass tiles make a dramatic statement in any style kitchen. Designer Dave Stimmel installed the tile along the length of the cabinets and the wet bar area to connect the two spaces.

What better way to feel like you're in Italy than a mural of a vineyard in your kitchen? RMS user busymommyathome installed this hand-painted mural to bring a touch of Italy to her home.

The glass tiles in the backsplash alternate between glossy and etched, complementing the glossy stainless steel appliances and honey maple cabinets.

The backsplash should be one of the main focuses when remodeling your kitchen.  Curved glass tile for a basketweave look,  draws the eye straight to the backsplash.

The small clear glass tiles in this backsplash make the perfect backdrop for the stainless steel double stack hood. Designer Gail Drury combines the sparkling backsplash with stainless steel appliances for extra shine.

This is one of my favorite's, it is rich with colors and design.

A backsplash can often be the focal point of a kitchen. Designer Gail Drury had this in mind when she designed this intricate tile backsplash framed by the stone hood.

Outdoor Kitchens and Living Spaces

This pavilion uses complementary design to create connections with the house.
A barbecue area, refrigerator, pizza oven and cantilevered dining table are all included in the kitchen, while a separate lounge area with a fireplace creates a space for socialising.
The space features box windows complemented by a mirror above the fireplace.

Escape to St. Croix

This vacation home sits high above the island of St. Croix's northeast shore.
If you didn't get a vacation this year, take this tour and feel like you've visited St. Croix, even ever so briefly.

Nice place to begin the tour, the house enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding islands.

Merge the interior with the surrounding landscape, treats the verandas as rooms in their own right. Here, the colorful floor mats and bench seat cushions are designed for outdoor use.

Cotton gauze panels, hung on bamboo curtain rods, cover the many living room windows. The lightweight fabric is stirred by the ceiling fans and breezes, creating another layer to the interior scheme. The mix of Indonesia and Brazil furniture gives the room an eclectic casual feel, while the dark wood visually ties all the pieces together. The wall sconces are from Morocco.

In the adjacent dining area, a hanging chandelier adds a touch of sparkle. The formal lines of the chairs are softened by their casual fabric, which is similar to that used in the living room. The natural cotton fabric reinforces the casual, warm atmosphere  throughout the house. Many of the interior pieces are from the Home Design Store in Miami, and Victoria's Armoire in Coral Gables, Florida. The dining room diptych painting is by Debbie Broad.

In the master suite, a traditional planter's chair, next to the bed, is a subtle reference to the colonial history of the region. I love the design of this room, comfortable and cozy!!!

A pair of antique doors are used as a headboard, emphasizing the height of the ceiling in this bedroom.

Crema Marfil marble tiles are used throughout the master bathroom. Natural touches, like the seashell mirrors, add personality.

When a house is surrounded by sparkling seas and colorful native plants, good design celebrates these natural assets.
